Advanced Specialty Contractors of East Petersburg PA has been awarded the insulation subcontract at the Panda Hummel Generating Station located at the former site of the coal-fired Sunbury power plant near Shamokin Dam in Snyder County, Pennsylvania. The 400-megawatt, 65-year old Sunbury plant was retired in 2014, clearing the way for the utilization of more efficient and environmentally-sensitive power generation technology.
The state-of-the-art Hummel generating station uses the latest, most advanced emissions-control technology, making it one of the cleanest natural gas-fueled power plants in the nation. It supplies nearly twice as much power as the coal plant it replaced and key air emissions reduced by more than 90 percent. The 1,124-megawatt combined-cycle, electric generating plant powers approximately one million homes in Philadelphia and the New York metropolitan area.
